How transportation fits the plan
The round trip is arranged in a single quote: out on Friday, back on Sunday. On arrival the van drops you at the hotel; if you also book local transportation, it stays at your disposal on Saturday to move between the pools, the river and the dunes.
- Leave early. With 3.5 to 4 hours on the road, leaving on Friday afternoon gets you there for dinner and rest.
- Flexible Saturday. The Gypsum Dunes look best at sunset; the river and pools, in morning light.
- An unhurried Sunday. One last visit, lunch in town and the ride back in the afternoon to reach Monterrey by night.

Before planning your getaway
Can we do it as a day trip?
It is possible if you leave early, but it is over 7 hours on the road round trip and leaves little time at the pools. To enjoy Poza Azul, the river and the dunes without rushing we recommend at least one night; see the weekend getaway.
When is the best time to go and what should I bring?
You can visit all year: spring and autumn are the most pleasant (25 to 32 °C); summer is hot but the pools are perfect. Bring light clothing, closed shoes, a swimsuit, biodegradable sunscreen (mandatory at the pools), a hat, water and cash for entrances and local shops. The desert gets cold at night, so a light jacket helps.
